A timeout/retry configuration would greatly improve this scenario and allow it to be automated and cause a stack failure appropriately in a far more timely manner.

Otherwise, the task won't be able to accurately report and track the actual state of the CloudFormation stack, which isn't really acceptable when the goal is to have robust CI/CD pipelines.
